Freedom SCS System
Stimwave devices work by providing electrical impulses to a target area in the body. These impulses are intended to interrupt or change the pain signals, inducing the feeling of tingling or numbness (paresthesia), and possibly reducing or replacing the feeling of pain. This is a minimally invasive, long-term treatment option for chronic pain conditions relating to upper and lower limbs, entrapment syndromes, intercostal neuralgias, and other peripheral injuries or disease. After implantation of the leads the patient is given a handheld programmer to control the stimulation settings.
The Freedom Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) System is used to treat chronic pain with placement of electrodes in the epidural space of the spinal column. SCS has been used for the relief of chronic back and leg pain for many decades. Now with Freedom SCS, the footprint of the implantable component are very small with no potential hazards from implantable batteries and are Full Body MR conditional. The therapy utilizes pulsed electrical current to create an energy field that acts on nerves near the spinal column. The energy field generated at the electrodes intercepts the pain signals that originate from nerves in and around the spine from traveling to the brain, functionally blocking the pain signal.
